Brian D. Nieves is a former senior Trump Administration official and attorney who advises clients facing government investigations, congressional inquiries, regulatory enforcement actions, compliance challenges, and other high-stakes enforcement matters. Having served in senior leadership roles at the U.S. Department of Justice, the White House, and Congress, Brian helps clients navigate the legal, regulatory, and political considerations that shape complex disputes and government actions.
Prior to joining Vogel Group, Brian served as Chief of Staff and Associate Deputy Attorney General in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice. In that role, he helped lead Department-wide policy and enforcement priorities and worked directly with senior leadership across DOJ’s litigating, law enforcement, national security, and regulatory. He coordinated with federal agencies, Congress, and the White House on some of the Administration’s most significant legal, policy, and enforcement initiatives, advising senior Department leadership on matters involving congressional oversight, national security, complex criminal investigations, executive actions, and other sensitive government matters. Having worked across nearly every major component of the Department, Brian provides clients with a rare understanding of how complex matters are evaluated, escalated, and resolved at the highest levels of government.
Concurrently, Brian served as Chief of Staff for Policy in the Office of the Associate Attorney General, supporting Department-wide policy coordination across DOJ’s civil, regulatory, and enforcement components. During his tenure at the Department, he also played a key role in preparing and guiding presidential nominees through the Senate confirmation process, including a nominee to the United States Court of Appeals, and served as the Department’s representative on the Board of Advisors of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.
Before joining the Department of Justice, Brian served as Deputy Chief Counsel for Oversight on the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary under Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), where he advised Members of Congress and senior staff on constitutional, regulatory, and oversight matters, led complex congressional investigations, and coordinated with federal law enforcement agencies on investigative and policy issues.
During the Trump-Vance Transition, Brian lead Senate confirmation strategy and preparation for numerous Senate-confirmed nominees, including the Deputy Attorney General and several Assistant Attorneys General.
Earlier in his career, Brian was a Special Assistant to the Chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. He also served in several roles within the White House Office of Presidential Personnel, including as Director of Appointments, where he helped manage presidential appointments across the Executive Branch. Earlier, he gained experience in the Office of White House Counsel, the Office of Management and Budget, and the federal judiciary.
