WASHINGTON, D.C. — Vogel Group today announced that Brian D. Nieves, who most recently served as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General under Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche—currently serving as Acting Attorney General—has joined the firm as a Principal in Washington, D.C. Nieves formerly served as a senior congressional oversight attorney on the House Judiciary Committee under Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH).
Nieves brings experience spanning the highest levels of the Department of Justice, the White House, and Congress, with a background focused on executive branch operations, congressional oversight and investigations, government enforcement and regulatory matters, government ethics, and high-stakes public policy and strategic affairs.
At Vogel Group, Nieves will advise clients navigating congressional oversight, investigations, executive branch engagement, enforcement and regulatory matters, crisis management, confirmation and appointment processes, government ethics issues, and complex public policy challenges.
In his most recent role as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General, Nieves helped oversee and coordinate Department-wide policy implementation, strategic initiatives to advance the President’s agenda, congressional engagement, and coordination among Department leadership, operating at the center of some of the Administration’s highest-profile legal and policy priorities.
Prior to his service at the Department of Justice, Nieves served as Deputy Chief Counsel for Oversight on the House Judiciary Committee, where he advised Members of Congress and senior leadership on investigations, oversight strategy, congressional inquiries, witness preparation, document production, and matters involving executive agencies and private-sector stakeholders. His experience includes helping organizations and institutions respond effectively to complex interactions involving Congress, regulators, and executive branch officials.
During the Trump-Vance Presidential Transition, Nieves helped lead Senate confirmation strategy and preparation for multiple senior Trump Administration nominees. Nieves also served in leadership positions within the White House Presidential Personnel Office during President Trump’s first term. His experience working across the White House, executive agencies, and transition operations provides him with a unique understanding of presidential personnel, executive branch decision-making, and executive leadership.
“Brian brings a uniquely powerful combination of executive branch leadership experience and deep expertise in congressional oversight and investigations,” said Alex Vogel, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Vogel Group. “Organizations today face increasing scrutiny not only from agencies and regulators, but also from Congress. Brian understands how oversight is conducted, how investigations develop, how institutions operate under pressure, and how organizations can engage effectively and responsibly across government. His experience inside the Department of Justice, the White House, and Congress will create tremendous value for our clients.”
Vogel Group expects Nieves to play a leading role in expanding the firm’s capabilities supporting clients facing oversight inquiries, investigations, executive branch challenges, enforcement matters, government ethics issues, and other high-impact government affairs matters.
“Today’s policy and regulatory challenges are rarely confined to a single agency or branch of government,” said Nieves. “To be successful, organizations benefit from advisors who understand the broader landscape and can help them navigate competing interests, complex processes, and priorities of regulators. I’m excited to join Vogel Group to help clients achieve their goals through strategic counsel and practical execution.”
