Indiana Congressman Jim Baird’s Legislative Director, Cory Harris, Joins Vogel Group as Director

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Top bipartisan government relations firm, Vogel Group, announced today that Cory Harris will join the firm as a Director to lead the firm’s growing agriculture practice. Cory joins the firm from Congressman Jim Baird’s (R-IN-04) office where he served as Legislative Director for the last two years.

As the Congressman’s chief policy advisor, Cory provided counsel to the Congressman on all issues ranging from agriculture to appropriations, climate, energy, and trade policy. During the Congressman’s tenure as the Ranking Member on the House Agriculture Subcommittee for Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research, Cory led negotiations surrounding the reauthorization of PRIA, ADUFA, and the Farm Bill and focused efforts on protecting and advancing market access for innovative tools for producers, such as biotechnology, crop protection, feed ingredients, hemp, biofuels, and other tools for improving sustainability.

Alex Vogel, Chief Executive Officer at Vogel Group, commented that “Cory brings a unique set of experiences to the team through his work in several different agricultural policy spaces. His expertise in ag/biotech issues in particular, will be critical to a broad range of industry stakeholders as we work toward the new farm bill next year and continue to navigate the myriad of food, climate and energy-related issues that are connected to the agriculture space both federally and in the states.”

An Indiana native, Cory brings almost a decade of experience in agriculture, representing leaders and associations across the industry. Prior to joining Congressman Baird’s office Cory led government affairs for the American Feed Industry Association, where he represented over 700 member companies across the entire animal food industry. In this role he secured legislative victories including increasing funding in the FY21 appropriations process, assisting member companies to secure access and special operations status at the onset of the pandemic and successfully blocked several pieces of harmful legislation at the state level. Cory has also led federal affairs efforts for the Indiana Soybean Alliance & Indiana Corn Growers Association, representing thousands of Hoosier farmers on legislative and regulatory issues and building out robust grassroots engagement. Cory began his career at Growth Energy, the leading biofuel trade association in the country.

Cory Harris added, “As a farm kid from Indiana, my entire career has been in agriculture,” said Harris. “It’s been an honor to spend the past two years serving Hoosiers working for an agriculture leader as strong as Congressman Baird. I’m so excited to continue working in agriculture and to have the opportunity to bring my keen understanding of agriculture, and my experience on Capitol Hill and with ag associations to a firm as highly regarded and with as much expertise as Vogel Group.”
