Van Heuvelen Strategies will join The Vogel Group as it continues to grow its bipartisan team.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Vogel Group today announced the addition of top Democratic lobbyist Bob Van Heuvelen and his team at VH Strategies. Van Heuvelen will join the group as a Principal in its Government Affairs practice, alongside Valerie West, who will join as a Principal, and his two deputies Bobby Cunningham and Samuel Yntema, who will serve as Directors at The Vogel Group.

“Bob has been a key player in Washington for more than three decades, leading a thriving and highly successful government affairs firm for over a decade, earning him the respect of legislators and policymakers across several Administrations,” said The Vogel Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Alex Vogel. “His policy acumen and robust set of allies on both sides of the aisle have enabled him to consistently deliver wins for clients across a range of practice areas. Bob and his team will be invaluable to The Vogel Group and our roster of clients as we continue growing our bipartisan team to successfully navigate the current dynamic of a new administration and closely divided Congress.”

Prior to founding Van Heuvelen Strategies in 2007, Bob served for a decade as Chief of Staff to then Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-ND). In this capacity, Bob advised the Senator on his work as Budget Committee Chairman, and his work as Ranking Member of the Finance Committee. During his tenure in the Senate, Bob co-founded the Bipartisan Senate Chiefs Organization, an organization that continues to function as a valuable relationship builder for current and former Senate Chiefs of Staff. Prior to joining the Senate, Bob was a federal prosecutor at the Department of Justice (DOJ), ultimately serving as Acting Chief of the Environmental Enforcement Section. He also served as the Director of the Office of Civil Enforcement at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Bob was awarded both the EPA Gold Medal and the John Marshall Award for his work in DOJ’s Environmental Enforcement Section. He has also been recognized for his work in The Hill’s “Top Lobbyists” more than ten times in his career, including most recently in 2019 and 2020.

Bob began his career in Washington working for Senators Ed Muskie (D-ME) and Quentin Burdick (D-ND) on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. As an Assistant Counsel, Bob helped write amendments to the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and Superfund legislation. Bob graduated with honors from Macalester College and holds an M.A. from the Humphrey School at the University of Minnesota and a J.D. from the George Washington University School of Law.

“I am delighted to be joining forces with Alex Vogel, one of the most talented and highly regarded lobbyists in Washington, DC,” said Bob Van Heuvelen. “Alex and The Vogel Group have a reputation for integrity and effectiveness. Clients know that in terms of an ethic of hard work, dedication, and results, you cannot beat The Vogel Group. Alex and the members of his firm are exceptional.
