John Hesse is a Principal at the Vogel Group.
John is an expert in advancing public policy goals, large public affairs campaigns and external communications connecting business strategy to all external interactions. John also provides management consulting services to help clients navigate government and public affairs challenges. He has represented clients before Congress, 37 state legislatures, the White House, federal agencies, foreign governments, and the European Parliament and Commission.
John has a wide range of experience servicing clients in various industries. He successfully designed a holistic public affairs strategy for commercial fishing interests to influence the reauthorization of the Magnuson-Stevens Fisheries Act. On behalf of another client, John negotiated market entry in several former Soviet countries, successfully expanding his client’s market opportunities. In 2010, John served as the Executive Director for Better Beer and Wine Laws, successfully advocating for legislation to allow a growing number of out-of-state wineries to ship directly to Maryland consumers.
John also has extensive experience in human capital and executive recruitment. In three different roles, John identified skilled corporate affairs professionals to advance client advocacy goals with external audiences. He also represented many high-profile DC professionals through a change or transition to the private sector.
John is a member of the Oxford University Global Corporate Affairs Advisory Council and a licensed attorney.
