Brian Johnson

Brian Johnson is a Principal of The Vogel Group.

With over a decade of policy experience and a strong background utilizing mobilization and communications components to compliment government relations strategies, Brian provides clients with a comprehensive bi-partisan strategy to tackle Capitol Hill, the Administration and agencies. Brian is instrumental as a senior leader of the firm’s Government Affairs practice, averages over 1,000 Congressional meetings a year, had countless pieces of legislation introduced on behalf of clients, and was named to “The Hill’s Top Lobbyist 2020” list. As a policy expert he has testified before Congress and his expert commentary has been featured on BBC, CNN, C-SPAN, Fox News, Fox Business News, PBS, Real Clear Politics, and many more.

 

Most recently, Brian was a Director of Federal Relations for the American Petroleum Institute (API) and previously API’s Senior Tax Advisor. Prior to that, Brian served as Manager of Federal Affairs for Americans for Tax Reform, Executive Director of The Alliance for Worker Freedom, and has worked for presidents in the field and on many political and presidential candidate campaigns.

 

During his tenure at API, among many other accomplishments, Brian was instrumental in crafting major bi-partisan energy and trade policy (including the passage of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) and the construction of what was the TransAtlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP). Most recently Brian was a key figure in helping draft sections or, and advocate for, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2018 (TJCA), the largest tax reform since 1986, working on both the domestic and international pieces. In this capacity, he worked daily for years with members of the House Energy & Commerce, Senate Commerce, Science & Transportation, Ways & Means and Senate Finance Committees as well as senior officials within the White House and relevant agencies.

 

Brian received his B.A. in Political Science, with a minor in International Affairs, a Specialization in European Political Economy and International Trade from the Institut Catholique des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (ICHEC) in Brussels, Belgium, and a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) focusing on Public Policy Analysis.
